Paul, Gray Trade Barbs At Fancy Farm

Karyn Czar - Josh James

Kentucky's quiet U.S. Senate race has exploded on the stage of Kentucky's premiere political event.  Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and Democrat Lexington Mayor Jim Gray traded jabs for the first time beneath the shaded pavilion at the annual Fancy Farm picnic.

Gray has been criticizing Paul for months, while Paul has mostly ignored his opponent. But Saturday, Paul let loose with a series of pointed jabs that portrayed Gray as an opponent of the state's signature coal industry and a liberal politician whose ideas our out of step with Kentucky.

Gray did not wilt under the jeers from hundreds of Paul supporters in the crowd during his first trip to Fancy Farm, saying Paul is more interested in being president than representing the people of Kentucky.
