Bevin Makes Appointments To University Of Louisville Board

Josh James

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has revamped the University of Louisville Board of Trustees with 10 appointments that include pizza magnate John Schnatter and businessman Junior Bridgeman.

Bevin said Wednesday his action represents "a new day" for UofL, which was plagued by turmoil among former trustees over the status of embattled school President James Ramsey.

The Republican governor's decision to disband the school's former board of trustees is being challenged in court by Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear.

Bevin says the new board will be more effective in governing the university.

The new appointments include Schnatter, the founder, chairman and CEO of Papa John's International Inc. Another appointee is Bridgeman, a Louisville businessman and former UofL basketball standout.

The governor's office says Bridgeman is among three African-Americans appointed to the board.
