Lexington Public Library Executive Director Ann Hammond cut the ribbon today on the brand new Eastside Branch near Hamburg. Hundreds of people poured in and got a first look at the spacious facility in the old Jaguar dealership, at the corner of Man ‘O War and Palumbo Drive. It replaces the comparatively smaller Eagle Creek Branch, a couple of blocks away.
Hammond says they’d been trying for years to find a larger space for customers in the Hamburg-Richmond Road corridor.
"We came across this building and thought this is absolutely perfect," Hammond told WUKY. "It's an existing building so it's more economical for us, we can get a larger footprint than we would have if we built from scratch," Hammond said.
Eastside has more than twice the square footage (32,000) of the Eagle Creek building and features a larger drive through, a fireplace, several meeting and study rooms, and space to work on handicrafts.
