Vocalists and musicians from UK’s opera program will be lending their talents for a good cause this Friday night. An evening at the Theatre is a benefit concert for the choral scholars program at Hunter Presbyterian Church.
“Last year my predecessor Maggie Owens, who actually just finished her Doctorate here at UK…same program that I’m doing but I’m working on my Masters, decided that she needed a fundraiser to support the music program at Hunter, and so she thought she’s got so many great singers, operatic singers that she can use to put on a benefit concert and it was a great success and so we thought, let’s do this again," explained Music Ministry Director Will White.
The concert has been designed to show off the performers' broad musical range.
“The concert will be in two parts, the first half will be a more classical repertoire, operatic arias, and the second half will be more musical theater, a couple of jazz standards, so you’ll kind of get the spectrum of vocal music," White said.
Tickets are $10 each and will be available at the door. The concert gets under way Friday night at 7 at Hunter Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Rosemont Garden and Nicholasville Road.
