Lexington’s Urban County Council recognized two residents Thursday who helped rescue a man from his burning house On September 16th, Bill Smith and Tom Wilson were passing by the house of Clarence Woodrum, when they noticed the flames. Councilmember Shevawn Akers says the men noticed Woodrum on a second-story balcony, grabbed a ladder from a side yard, and guided him down.
“Due to health problems and age, Mr Woodrum said without the help of these good Samaritans, he and his four Chihuahuas would not have survived the fire," she said.
The two men were honored in a proclamation and given commemorative plaques by Mayor Jim Gray. Akers also expressed her appreciation for firefighters from engines 2, 4, 8, and 13, who also took part in the rescue.
