PlantPure Nation, new documentary on efforts to introduce Kentuckians - among others - to plant-based diets, is coming to The Kentucky Theatre this week.
It’s not quite an official sequel to 2011’s Forks Over Knives, but fans of that film might recognize one name in the credits – Dr. T. Colin Campbell, whose son embarks on an initiative to create a whole foods, plant-based diet pilot program to demonstrate its effects in a low-income Eastern Kentucky community. Despite initial interest in the Kentucky House of Representatives, the idea meets with stiff resistance in committee.
"After that was basically shot down, I decided you know I'm going to do this anyway, and I went back to North Carolina to do the project and to do it in an even more expanded fashion," Campbell tells WUKY.
The film traces Campbell’s journey as he seeks to introduce consumers to a new way of eating he argues could lead to a health revolution, eventually looping back to the commonwealth as he looks to reengage with lawmakers in Frankfort.
PlantPure Nation makes its Lexington debut Thursday night at 7 at the Kentucky Theatre.
