Coveted parking spots on UK’s campus are about to become even more rare.
Starting tonight, several thousand University of Kentucky students and employees will be moving their cars or leaving them off campus when they arrive for work and classes Thursday morning. It’s all to make room for tailgaters and game goers who will be heading to Commonwealth Stadium to watch the Wildcats take on the Auburn Tigers at 7:00 tomorrow night. Most students who live on-campus say they don’t mind, but some who commute, like Freshman Kaitlyn Conn, are frustrated. “Campus will be hectic as it is so finding the spot and then getting to class will just be a much more extended process and that’s very frustrating for me because I paid to have a parking spot”
UK Spokesman Jay Blanton said they’ve been planning for this event for about a year and believes the alternate parking will prove to be fairly painless. “There’s a website http://www.uky.edu/evpfa/thursdayfootball that explains in great detail where students and faculty and staff can park if their parking lot is being used for the game that day and that night and also talks about how shuttle busses are going to be going on a continuous basis”
This is the first time Kentucky will play at Commonwealth during the Thursday night slot and the game will be televised on ESPN. Blanton said you can’t buy that kind of advertising and exposure for the University.
