Traveling Vietnam Wall Arrives In Lexington This Week

A retired Marine officer will be among the speakers at a ceremony for the Traveling Vietnam Wall at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The state Department of Veterans Affairs says retired Major General Arnold Fields will join Gov. Steve Beshear in speaking at the ceremony Friday. Fields retired from the Marine Corps in 2004 after more than 34 years of active military service. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as deputy commander of Marine Corps forces in Europe and Africa.

The Traveling Vietnam Wall is an 80 percent scale model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall in Washington, D.C. and will be on display at the Horse Park from noon on Thursday through 3 p.m. Sunday.

A total of 1,104 Kentuckians died in the Vietnam War.
