Lexington Hosts "America In Bloom" Judges

America In Bloom

On Tuesday, Lexington played host to national judges from America in Bloom, a group that promotes and gives out awards for city beautification.  Accompanied by city staff and local citizen groups, they took an extensive tour of Fayette County. Notable stops included the University of Kentucky Arboretum, the Kentucky Horse Park, Picadome Golf Course, and William Wells Brown Elementary School.  Judge Alex Pearl said the experience gave a very positive impression.

“We can only think and say to the citizens of Lexington that you are doing a fabulous job.  You have a wonderful place to live, to work, to raise families long-term in, and we congratulate you on maintaining that,” he said.

Last year, Lexington was given a rating of four blooms by America in Bloom, as well as the organization’s award for best commercial streetscape.  Mayor Gray said he only hoped to improve the city further, particularly as he prepares the city to host the Breeders Cup.  Judge Pearl and his counterpart Barbara Vincentson will send their final evaluations to local program organizers this fall.

Chase Cavanaugh first got on the air as a volunteer reader for Central Kentucky Radio Eye, a local news service for the visually impaired. He began reporting for WUKY in February 2012, after receiving his Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce.
