Crime Alert Issued By UK Police

Three cars were stolen on or near UK’s campus in a matter of days, prompting campus police to issue an alert.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said “We always look to see if there’s any pattern of crime on campus or in the campus area.  And one of the things that stood out to us was there were three auto thefts within a short period of time all within a general specific area of South Limestone.  So we issued an advisory just to make sure everyone’s aware of that, keeping transparency with our community so they know what’s going on.”

One car was stolen after the driver was flagged down near Upper Street by three men and told they were stranded and needed a ride.  A second was taken from the Jersey Street Employee Parking Lot.  A third car went missing from the Good Samaritan Parking Structure after the owner’s purse was stolen at work.

Both the University of Kentucky and Lexington Police Departments are investigating and ask anyone with information on these cases to call either office.  It’s unclear at this time if any or all of these thefts are related.
