Two Men Accused In Krueger Shooting Plead Not Guilty

AP

Justin Smith and Efrain Diaz, the pair of men charged in the murder of University of Kentucky student Jonathan Krueger, have pleaded not guilty in Fayette District Court. Having waived their right to a formal arraignment, their next court appearance has been scheduled for May 7.

The two men face murder and first-degree robbery charges stemming from the April 17th incident, which left the 22-year-old Kentucky Kernel photographer dead. Court documents do not reveal the nature of the attempted theft, and questions remain about the number of guns and assailants involved in the crime.

Krueger’s murder has sparked a number of memorials and candlelight vigils, both in Lexington and his Ohio hometown. A scholarship bearing his name has already attracted more than $14,000 in donations.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
