News Organizations Want Testimony In Arnold Case Unsealed
The Courier-Journal and Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting are asking to intervene in a sexual harassment case against a former legislator.
The organizations want to challenge efforts by state Rep. Sannie Overly and other public officials to seal their testimony in the case against former state Rep. John Arnold. Arnold in accused of sexually harassing legislative staffers.
On Wednesday, a state judge temporarily sealed all testimony in the case. The media organizations filed their petition to intervene on Thursday. They argue that sealing evidence prevents scrutiny of a matter of public importance.
Overly is a Democrat running for lieutenant governor. She has argued that her testimony could be embarrassing.
Robert Sherman, the former director of the Legislative Research Commission, also wants his testimony sealed.
