Rand Paul Teaser Video Sets Stage For Tuesday Announcement

Poised to make his 2016 presidential run official Tuesday in Louisville, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul rolled out the carpet early this week with a video dubbed “A Different Kind of Republican.”

If the 2:43 second campaign introduction is any indication, Paul intends to set himself apart from the Republican pack with a message of change – though not the sort famously championed by the current occupant of the White House in 2008. The video, which stitches together laudatory clips from 24-hour news channels and even Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, concludes with an urgent plea to supporters.

"It's time for a new way, a new set of ideas, a new leader. One you can trust. One who works for you, and above all it's time for a new president," the first term senator says, before a rhythmic chant of "President Paul!" takes over.

With other potential GOP hopefuls staking out conservative positions likely to fire up the base, political observers will be keeping a close eye on Paul’s strategy as he works to woo both traditional Republicans and more libertarian-minded independent voters.

Meanwhile, party leaders in Kentucky continue to consider ways of getting around the state’s ban on candidates appearing more than once on the ballot during any election. If he wins the nomination, Paul would be seeking both the presidency and his old Senate seat.
