Bryan Station HS Holds Diversity Fair

Bryan Station High School held its ninth annual Diversity Fair  on Friday.

The event is designed to celebrate the many national and cultural backgrounds of its student body and faculty.  Much of the festivities took place in the auditorium, where students watched performances from various international groups, including, Chinese, Irish, and Spanish dancers.  Organizer and special education teacher Shatha Shakir said this met with a very positive reception.

“Our kids participated, the school and people from abroad, they all come in here, they participated, and I think it’s very very successful," she said.

After the performances, students went to the cafeteria to snack on foods from other countries, including Egypt, France, and Haiti.  Also mixed into the festivities were elements of local culture, including hip-hop performances and an Appalachian band.

Chase Cavanaugh first got on the air as a volunteer reader for Central Kentucky Radio Eye, a local news service for the visually impaired. He began reporting for WUKY in February 2012, after receiving his Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce.
