Recently the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation launched an initiative called the $5M Cities Challenge, a national call for new ideas to make communities around the country more vibrant places to live and work.

The competition committee received more than 7,000 entries and an idea submitted by some UK students is now one of 126 finalists in the competition.  Their proposal involves a political festival for Lexington modeled after Kentucky's famous Fancy Farm Picnic in Graves County.

The final application is due on Sunday February 1st.  Abigail Shelton and Clay Thornton discuss the concept with WUKY's Alan Lytle.  A special celebration and editing session is planned for this Friday afternoon at 5 the Boone Center.
