Fayette County Public Schools Facing Discrimination Complaint

Lexington Fayette Human Rights Commission

A complaint has been filed that accuses the Fayette County school district of discrimination.  The Lexington-Fayette County Human Rights Commission Director Raymond Sexton told the Lexington Herald-Leader that the organization filed the complaint on behalf of employees who said they are victims of race discrimination.

The complaint, which was obtained by the newspaper through the Open Records Act, alleges that the school district "has engaged in a pattern of systemic racial discriminatory practices."

District spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said Wednesday that the district hadn't yet receive the complaint, but that officials "look forward to working with the Lexington Human Rights Commission in order to address the concerns raised and improve."

Sexton said the commission would investigate and then issue a ruling.
