Parking Authority Refunding Fees Due To Error

If you paid a $15 late fee for a parking violation in Lexington between July 2008 and mid-April 2012, you may be entitled to a refund.

In a statement released Tuesday, Lexington Parking Authority Board chair James Frazier points to a glitch that occurred when the Parking Authority switched from writing paper tickets to using electronic hand-held devices about seven years ago. One type of violation, coded “1G – Expired Meter,” began generating $15 late fees 15 days out instead of 30.

Though the error was fixed on paper in 2012, the incorrect late fees were never addressed – until now, that is.

Anyone who paid the early fine is being asked to contact LEXPARK on North Broadway either in person or by phone at (859) 231-7275. They will be entitled to a refund and a $3 parking voucher that can be used at any LEXPARK garage.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
