One spot on the committee tasked with screening potential Fayette County Superintendent candidates was decided by the flip of a coin Monday.
A state-mandated coin toss broke the tie between Sharon Mofield-Boswell and Roger Cleveland, bringing the panel one step closer to completion. Mofield-Boswell will join the committee, along with a school board member who will be nominated Monday night by board chair John Price.
But that might not mark the end of the process.
State law mandates that the committee must include a member of a racial minority and if Price does not select one tonight, the school system will have to hold a special parent election to choose an extra member.
The screening panel will include two certified staff, one classified employee, a principal, a parent, and a school board member.
Marlene Helm has been selected as the interim superintendent. Officials hope to have a new permanent superintendent by July.
