Charles Young Center Under Review For National Register Of Historic Places

Alan Lytle

Six Kentucky sites, including the Charles Young Community Center and Park in Lexington's East End Neighborhood have been approved by a state review board for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.  The nominations by the Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board will be sent to the National Park Service for a final decision on eligibility.

The state review board says a decision on the designation is expected in 60 to 90 days.

The other Kentucky sites are Marianne Theater in Bellevue, Lynn Acres Apartments and the Louisville Gas & Electric Co. Service Station Complex in Jefferson County, Hellman Lumber and Manufacturing Co. in Covington and Elkhorn City Elementary and High Schools in Pike County.

The National Register is the nation's official list of historic and archaeological resources deemed worthy of preservation.
