A northern Kentucky lawmaker is challenging longtime Rep. Jeff Hoover for the top Republican leadership position in the state House.
Rep. Adam Koenig said Friday he decided to mount his campaign for minority floor leader after Republicans failed to wrest control of the 100-member House from Democrats in last month's election.
Koenig, an Erlanger Republican, says he appreciates Hoover's service but says it's time for new leadership, new ideas and new energy to promote Republican efforts to end Democrats' historic control of the House.
Koenig says the state's direction won't change as long as Democrats are in charge of the House.
Republicans added to their majority in the Kentucky Senate last month. But Democrats overcame President Barack Obama's unpopularity to retain the upper hand in the House.
