Pay Parking Fines With Food Donations

People who receive parking tickets in Lexington don't have to pay the fines if they bring in cans of food for a local food bank.

The city says the “Food for Fines” food drive begins today and runs through December 19th.  The cost to pay for any parking meter citation is a donation of 10 cans of food.  The city says people who have multiple meter citations, including those that are past due, can wipe the slate clean by bringing in 10 cans for each ticket.

Lexington Parking Authority suggests giving canned vegetables that are at least 14 to 15 ounces and you can drop off your donation at 122 North Broadway.  Expired, damaged or opened food donations will not be accepted.
