A Fayette County Public Schools board member who was just re-elected is apologizing for a social media post.
At 11:30 last Thursday night Doug Barnett made this facebook post after Fayette County Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton announced he'd be leaving at the end of the year to take a position with the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents. The post read: “Well ... ... I hope your afternoon and evening was more interesting than mine! It appears that we are going to select a new superintendent for FCPS. Allow me to say two things that are non-negotiable: 1) I will NOT consider any candidate who will not improve morale within the district or consider employees as key collaborators; 2) woe be upon you if you supported my opponent. You just lost your seat at the table! Just saying!"
Barnett later deleted the post and apologized, saying he was posting in anger because he didn’t appreciate the way he was treated by some during the campaign. He went on to promise an open and transparent search for a new superintendent.
Fayette Board Chairman John Price said he was disappointed with the post but he expects Barnett will do whatever is in the best interest of the students. The board will begin discussing a replacement for Shelton during a board meeting later today.
