A trio of lawmakers are pushing measures to combat heroin use in advance of the 2015 legislative session after seeing similar bills die this year.
State Rep. Addia Wuchner, R-Burlington, Rep. Joe Fischer, R-Fort Thomas, and Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, have pre-filed measures that would increase penalties for heroin trafficking.
Last session, a bill that would toughen penalties on high-volume heroin traffickers and increase money for addiction treatment failed to get through in the final hours of the session.
Wuchner told The Kentucky Enquirer she'll push to make sure at least one of the measures passes in the next session.
Both proposals would increase penalties for heroin trafficking. Wuchner's proposal would also impose court fees to raise money for heroin treatment in jails.
