Sustainability Challenge Is Back With A New Name

Bluegrass Greensource and city officials are preparing to kick off the LiveGreenLexington Green Business Challenge.

The event, previously known as LiveGreenLexington Games, may have a new title, but the aim is the same.

"Basically it's a sustainability competition for Lexington businesses," says Beth Oleson with Bluegrass Greensource.

The yearlong challenge awards participants for implementing more environmentally friendly practices in a number of categories. And this year the list is expanding.

"In the past, it has been mostly restricted to waste reduction, energy conservation, and water stewardship. We still have all of those, but this year we're expanding to include education and outreach, green purchasing, transportation, property manager engagement, innovation," Oleson notes.

While previous competitions were only between LiveGreenLexington business partners, all area businesses are welcome to join this time. The kick-off event happens Oct. 1, but those interested can register early at lexgreenbizchallenge.com.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
