120 Yearlings Sold At Opening Day At Keeneland

Keeneland says two fillies sold for more than $1 million each on a "robust" opening day of its September Yearling Sale.

A Bernardini filly out of Grade 1 stakes winner Mushka by Empire Maker brought Monday's top price of $1.2 million from John Ferguson, who bought six yearlings totaling $2.6 million.

Earlier, John and Leslie Malone's Bridlewood Farm in Ocala, Florida, bought a half-sister to champion Beholder for $1.1 million.

Keeneland reported that 120 yearlings sold for $33,165,000 at an average price of $276,375, up 3.4 percent from 2013. The median price of $245,000 was up nearly 23 percent from last year.

Tapit sired the day's highest-priced colt ($900,000), a half-brother to Grade 3 stakes winners Heart Ashley and Ashley's Kitty and stakes champion Indianapolis that was sold to Coolmore's M.V. Magnier.
