Mountain Parkway Interchange Promises Greater Access To Clark County

A long-discussed roadway expansion strengthening the connection between central Kentucky and the state’s mountain region is nearing completion.

The $8.3M Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway interchange will offer drivers easier routes to parts of eastern Clark County that have in the past been accessible only by slender back roads.

"Basically what we're doing here is creating an intersection between KY 974 and the Mountain Parkway," Winchester mayor Ed Burtner told WKYT-TV. "It provides access to the eastern part of Clark County. It provides access to KY 15. It provides access to emergency crews, and response crews, that are responding to the eastern part of Clark County."

Crews began work on the diamond interchange in March last year and a few finishing touches still have yet to be installed. Officials say lighting will be added to the on and off ramps in the next two weeks before the interchange opens in mid-September.
