Nearly Twenty Back-To-School Rallies Set For Saturday

It might not be the summer event most kids look forward to, but organizers are working to make this year’s Back-to-School rallies a fun time for all.

The “Preparing for Success” back-to-school rallies will be held Saturday in close to twenty neighborhoods across town. Attendees will able to enjoy lawn games and other outdoor activities, peruse resource booths, and pick up free school supplies.

Julie Balog with YMCA of Central Kentucky says organizers expect to hand out between 7,000 and 8,000 backpacks filled with supplies for all grade levels. About 60 Lafayette football players delivered the kits Tuesday to Gardenside Christian Church, where volunteers sorted through the supplies.

Registration will run from 9-11 am Saturday. Students must attend with parents to receive the free backpacks.
