Central Kentuckians can see what it takes to become an Olympic-level fencer in a new documentary debuting this week in Lexington.

Local filmmaker Sean Anderson turns his lens on Lexington’s Bluegrass Fencer’s club, and some dedicated young members, including teen phenom Lee Kiefer who competed for Team USA in the 2012 Olympic Games.

"She was a senior at Dunbar the year I filmed.  She did make the U-S Olympic Foil Team, and her coach Amgad Khazbak, who runs the club, was the Women's Foil Coach at that Olympics in 2012.  So they both went," Anderson told WUKY.

Anderson says his documentary, called “The People In the Room” uses an observational approach to storytelling.

"There are no interviews.  There's no narrator.  I do put up a few subtitles in places as kind of a guidepost for people to let them know exactly what's happening at certain points if it's a little confusing, but it just captures the lives of these people and then I take that and try to make some coherent flow out of it," Anderson said.

A free screening of the film takes place Thursday night at 7:15 in the downtown public library’s William Farish Theatre.
