Kentucky Labor Dept. representatives joined construction company officials at Commonwealth Stadium Monday afternoon to sign a special agreement.
The Construction Partnership Program aimed at making the $110 million dollar project safer. The deal will translate to strengthened ties between the Labor Cabinet and Skanska USA and Congleton-Hacker Company.
Darin Magee senior superintendent for Skanska, the same company that recently completely the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
"What it does is... they will come out and do scheduled walks with us on the jobsite versus most of the time they would wait for a complaint to come in from a sub-contractor, so we try to be proactive and we invite them to our jobsite to witness our safety program and be a part of it," he says.
A 24-year-old man died earlier this year after being struck by a piece of plywood at a construction site on the University of Kentucky campus. Isaias Cabrera Ramos died of the traumatic head injury despite wearing a hard hat close to the Haggin Hall site. That construction is being managed by Messer Construction.
Ramos' death was ruled accidental.

The renovation currently underway at Commonwealth will include luxury suites and club seats at the field and mezzanine levels. Magee says much of the work going on right now is underground.
The project is slated for completion in fall 2015.
