Collector’s items left over from Richie Farmer’s tenure as the state’s Agriculture Commissioner will go home with the highest bidders next month.
16 Case knives and 13 Remington rifles will go on the auction block in May. The engraved items were originally intended as gifts from Farmer’s office to agriculture commissioners and their top aides from member states of the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture.
Agriculture Commissioner James Comer says the auction is “a way to make something positive out of what was an unfortunate situation.” A portion of the proceeds will go toward an urban garden project.
Farmer is serving a 27-month sentence at a federal prison in West Virginia for abusing public office.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife will auction the items on May 5.
