Ex-Judge To Be Sentenced For Vote Fraud

A former eastern Kentucky judge is scheduled for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges alleging wide spread vote fraud in eastern Kentucky.

Former Clay County Circuit Judge R. Cletus Maricle is set to face U.S. District Judge Karen K. Caldwell on Tuesday in federal court in Lexington.

Maricle pleaded guilty to his role in a wide-ranging conspiracy to control local politics by means of vote fraud.

Seven other people have also entered guilty pleas in the case that involved using the county Board of Elections in an effort to buy or steal votes in the 2002, 2004 and 2006 elections.

The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals last year overturned the convictions of the group after determining that a jury heard evidence it shouldn't have during a trial.
