Kentucky Poet Laureate Frank X. Walker has won an NAACP Image Award.
Walker, the author of Turn Me Loose, The Unghosting of Medgar Evers, which was recently turned into a nationally acclaimed radio program by WUKY’s DeBraun Thomas, received the award in the category of Outstanding Literary Work of Poetry.
Walker, founder of the Affrilachian Poets and an associate professor of English at the University of Kentucky, told WUKY it was “a great honor” to win such a prestigious award.
The NAACP has been handing out Image Awards for the last 45 years.
