Two BCTC Students Earn High Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A central Kentucky student has been named to the 2013 All-USA Community College Academic Team. Ebony Nava  of Bluegrass Community & Technical College is one of 20 students picked for the honor out of 1,800 nominations from around the world.

The 24-year-old Georgetown resident also recently received a scholarship at the annual convention for the American Association of College Presidents.

“I think the honors help keep me even more motivated because it’s like my hard work is visibly paying off,” said Nava.

Nava is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at BCTC. The organization focuses on developing student scholarship, leadership, and community service.

School officials are also celebrating the achievement of fellow Phi Theta Kappa member Mark Simonds, who is a 2013 PTK International Distinguished Chapter member. It marks the second year a BCTC student has earned the honor.

“There’s only 30 named in the entire world, and for BCTC in Lexington to have an international member two years in a row is almost pass out exciting,” said honor society faculty advisor Cindy Baker.
