Bingham McCutchen Opens Global Services Center

LEXINGTON, Ky. - An international law firm officially opened the doors Thursday to a new global services center in Lexington.

Employees of Bingham McCutchen were joined by Governor Steve Beshear and other government leaders for a ribbon cutting at UK’s Coldstream Research Park.

“One of the most important things that we focused on is the quality of the labor force, quality of the educational base here because if you don’t have good people, you won’t have a great operation. So that was something that ultimately made a big difference,” says Chief Operating Officer Tracee Whitley.

The celebration Thursday started with a moment of silence for victims of Monday’s bomb attack in Boston, where Bingham is headquartered.

“Literally some of our first calls were from some of our new colleagues here in Lexington, so it meant a lot to us. It’s just reaffirmed the relationship we’ve been building for the last year,” says Whitley.

The Global Services Center will handle back-office functions and business needs for Bingham’s 14 offices across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The law firm has a network of 1,000 attorneys.

“It’s an opportunity for us, after many years of growth, to consolidate and improve service and also just be in one central location.”

So far 100 employees have been hired for the Lexington site, about 10% of which are transfers from other Bingham locations. The law firm plans to hire an additional 150 employees over the next year.
