Lawmakers Approve Election Day Alcohol Sales

FRANKFORT, Ky. - On the last day of the 2013 session, the Kentucky legislature passed a bill that would allow the sale of alcohol on election days in moist and wet counties.

Under the bill, tourist destinations along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail would also be able to stay open on Election Day, and micro breweries would be able to sell drinks to patrons on-site.

"This will provide 600 to 700 thousand dollars a year in revenue for only two days of business. No taxes, No appropriations. This is what just two days of business does," said Rep. Sal Santoro (R-Florence).

The measure now heads to Governor Steve Beshear for his signature.
