U.S. 60 Repaving Will Change Road Surface From Concrete to Asphalt

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Road crews will begin a major repaving project Monday on U.S. 60 in Fayette and Woodford counties.

Between 38,000 and 42,000 cars and trucks use highway U.S. 60 each day to commute between Versailles and Lexington. The 6 miles of roadway between Blue Grass Parkway and New Circle Road will undergo a full-scale resurfacing.

“This is one of our more complained-about roads from the public. It’s a heavily traveled road and we’re constantly out there patching potholes. So it gets to the point where it just makes sense to go to a full rehab,” says project supervisor Tony McGaha.

U.S. 60 will change from concrete to asphalt because officials say that was the lowest-bid option. Crews will begin breaking up and repairing the highway's shoulders before moving on the medians and then getting to the six lanes of traffic.

“This project has a very aggressive work schedule. December 1st is our completion date for the project,”
says Steve Farmer, branch manager for the Department of Highways Lexington office.

Motorists can expect some delays, especially during the spring and fall meets and Keeneland Race Track.
