Med Toss to Collect Old Drugs This Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Police departments across the country are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration for a prescription drug take-back day this Saturday, September 29th.

Four locations will be open in Lexington from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. accepting old vitamins, inhalers, and medication:

  • Kentucky American Water, 2300 Richmond Rd.
  • Milward Funeral Home, 1509 Trent Blvd.
  • Dunbar High School 1600 Man o' War Blvd.
  • Hamburg Wal-mart, 2350 Grey Lag Way

Police Lt. Michelle Young says the free disposal is also safe for the environment.

“That way they don’t have to do it home and have to crush it up, mix it with coffee grounds or kitty litter and have to take care of it themselves. Basically they throw it in a box or a bag and just drop it off.”

A similar med toss in Lexington earlier this year brought in more than 14-hundred pounds of unwanted medication; the nationwide total reached 276 tons.

Lexington native Brenna Angel anchored local morning newscasts for WUKY through May 13. She joined the station in March 2010 after previously working for WHAS-AM in Louisville.
