Lexington Woman Struck by Car on Walking Trail

LEXINGTON, Ky. -  A woman has been struck by a car and seriously injured on a walking and bike trail in Lexington.

Police said Penelope R. Bentley of Lexington was jogging on the Legacy Trail early Wednesday evening when a driver who had pulled his car onto the walking path struck her.

The 8-mile-long walking and biking trail connects downtown Lexington to the Kentucky Horse Park. Motor vehicles are not allowed on it.

The driver, 42-year-old Keith M. Todd of Lexington, was arrested and charged with DUI and assault. Todd is a former Lexington police officer.

Bentley underwent surgery and was reported in serious condition.
