Horse Council Forms All Breed Panel

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – A non-profit group that seeks to improve the welfare of horses has formed a new panel to better address the diversity of Kentucky's equine industry. Ginny Grulke, Executive Director of the Kentucky Horse Council, says the Kentucky Breed & Discipline Council will bring together stakeholders representing all sides of major horse issues.

"We have a lot of segments and a lot of breeds and a lot of activities that don't always talk together just because they are busy working and taking care of their horses, so this is a formal way for everyone to come into the room at the same time and say what can we do improve the horse environment in Kentucky so that we all are able to enjoy our horses more or perhaps have a more successful equine business."

Grulke says the Kentucky Breed & Discipline Council will bring together representatives from the commonwealth's diverse horse interests to tackle problems facing all horse owners.

"Just making sure that we have the best lines of communication we can among everyone from the large horse farm down to the one horse owner so that if there's something happening in the state relative to infectious diseases or changes in regulations that everybody knows it."

Grulke says committee members will discuss ways of dealing with the state's increasing number of unwanted horses, getting more children acquainted with horses, and promoting the diversity of Kentucky's equine industry.
