Lexington, KY – A doctor working with Health First Bluegrass out of the Fayette County Health Department was stabbed during a robbery Tuesday morning. The woman's injuries are not life-threatening.
The robbery happened at about 7:30 Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the Fayette County Health Department. A man and a young girl accosted the doctor as she was arriving to work and stabbed her in the face while trying to rob her. Kevin Hall with the Fayette County Health Department says the incident left everyone involved shaken.
"It's been a pretty traumatic day for a lot of the staff. There have been a lot of tears. You could see a lot of people comforting each other. So we want to make sure that we provide extra measures so they can adequately deal with this," Hall says.
Those measures include bringing in outside counselors to help health department employees, many of whom witnessed parts of the incident, cope and beefing up police presence at the Newtown Pike facility. Hall says the department is focusing now on making sure the victim makes a full recovery and staff and patients feel safe. One suspect, Daniel Hale, has been arrested.
