NKU Still Looking After OVC Bid Falls Short

By Associated Press

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University President Jim Votruba said the school will look to other conferences in its quest to move up to Division I athletics after
being rejected by the Ohio Valley Conference.

Votruba told The Kentucky Enquirer that the Georgia-based Atlantic Sun and Illinois-based Summit League were the top possibilities for the school as it pursues a higher athletic status in time for the fall 2012 season.

School officials say eight of the 11 OVC members, including Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State and Murray State, voted late Tuesday to invite NKU to join. But 75 percent is required for an invitation, leaving the Norse one vote short.

The conference did not disclose the vote breakdown.

The move would make Northern Kentucky University eligible for the NCAA men's basketball championship tournament.
