Frankfort, KY – Democrat Jack Conway has won re-election as Kentucky's attorney general, defeating a Republican prosecutor who tried to turn the race into a referendum on federal issues
including the health care overhaul.
Conway focused on state issues, taking credit for a crackdown on cybercrime and Medicaid fraud, as Republican Todd P'Pool tried to connect the incumbent with President Barack Obama, who has been unpopular in Kentucky.
With 58 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Conway had 276,791, or 58 percent, to P'Pool's 199,866, or 42 percent.
Conway portrayed himself as an activist attorney general. He said his cybercrimes unit has taken 300,000 child porn images off the Internet. He pointed to his prescription pill task force as part of the offensive to curb abuse of prescribed medications.
