Lexington, KY – The renovated Lyric Theatre is now officially Lexington's first city-owned building to earn LEED Gold certification.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. To achieve Gold certification, Lyric architects installed a roof that reduces stormwater runoff and absorbs pollutants, a rainwater collection system, and large windows that make more use of natural light. First District Councilman Chris Ford said the Lyric sets a high bar.

"The Lyric gives us a standard by which to take on future construction projects that we know will be sustainable and enjoyable for our community," Ford said.

Ford accepted the LEED plaque from Chris Tyler, a board member of the Kentucky Chapter of the US Green Building Council. LEED points are awarded on a 100-point scale, and credits are weighted based on their potential environmental impacts.

The public will get a chance to comment on the plan Thursday at 6:30 PM at the Versailles county courthouse.
