Danville City Manager Cites Death Threat in Resignation

By Associated Press

DANVILLE, Ky. – The acting city manager in Danville has submitted his resignation, saying he is stepping down because of a death threat.

John W.D. Bowling, who also is a former mayor of the central Kentucky city, said in the letter to city officials that he fears for his safety.

Mayor Bernie Hunstad read Bowling's letter publicly on Tuesday after officials met in executive session.

Hunstad told The Advocate-Messenger that the threat was made last week, but declined further comment. Bowling said he would not comment beyond the statements made in his letter.

Danville Police Chief Jay Newell told the Lexington Herald-Leader that a current city employee is accused of making the threat, so he has asked state police to investigate.

A temporary city manager has not yet been named.
