LEXINGTON, Ky. – The man who replaced Stu Silberman when he left Daviess County Public Schools for Fayette County seven years ago wants to again follow in Silberman's footsteps. Tom Shelton is one of the finalists for Fayette County superintendent.
"I can tell you I wouldn't be sitting in this seat if Stu Silberman hadn't tapped me on the shoulder a few years ago and said hey isn't this something you ought to think about doing in your career?'"
Shelton says he wants to build on the success FCPS has already achieved and believes it can become the best school district in the country.
"It can't be purely my vision or my goal, it's gotta be the goal or vision of the community. And my job would be to support what the board and what the community would want to see there."
Shelton had a full day of interviews Wednesday, similar to what candidate Lu Young faced earlier this week.
Thursday is Clark County superintendent Elaine Farris' turn to meet with community groups and stakeholders.
