LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky Presidential Search Committee is getting an early start this week to interviewing candidates.
Early, as in, before sunrise. The group will meet beginning at 6:45 a.m. this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Cincinnati Airport Marriott in Hebron, Kentucky.
"About a week, week and a half later, we'll come together and hopefully narrow our final list to three to five preferred candidates. Those candidates will then be turned over to the full Board of Trustees because ultimately it's the Board of Trustees that will make the decision as to who the next president will be."
Trustees Chairman Britt Brockman says the top candidate will be presented to university faculty, staff, students, and alumni for an open vetting process. He hopes to extend an offer by May 1.
"I've said from the beginning it's a very ambitious deadline as far as our goal of May 1, but right now we're right on target."
Unless all the candidates agree to it, the names of the finalists will not be released.
UK is searching for a replacement to outgoing president Lee Todd Jr., who plans to retire after 10 years at the helm.
