LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – After hearing a lot of negative feedback from the public, UK basketball coach John Calipari has canceled a re-election fundraiser for Governor Steve Beshear.
News of the planned August 11 event was announced Wednesday afternoon. Calipari was going to host a $1,000-per-person cocktail party for the Democratic Beshear. By 9:40pm, however, Calipari posted on his Facebook page that the event was off.
He said, "I know how politically charged this state is and I recognize that the Big Blue Nation comes from both sides of the aisle. I appreciate every elected official who supports the University of Kentucky, regardless of party."
