LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of the state as Kentucky sees the hottest temperatures so far this summer.
Kevin Hall of the Lexington Fayette County Health Department says it's a good time to stay inside with the air conditioner.
"If you have to go outside, wear loose, lightweight clothing. Try to wear light colors, put a hat on, sunglasses, put on the sunscreen, a lot of the common sense things."
Avoid drinking soda and alcohol to cool off; the health department says water is the best choice for staying hydrated.
Hall says if Lexington should fall under a heat advisory, the city will be ready to open its cooling centers.
Thursday's high temperature in Lexington is forecast to be around 94, which seems mild compared to the record temperature for July 8: 106 degrees set in 1936.
