A giant tribute to a horse racing legend now graces the side of a building in downtown Lexington. 91.3 WUKY's Samantha Lederman was on hand for the special dedication.
If you’ve driven down Short Street between Broadway and Mill recently, you’ve probably noticed a brand new mural on the side of The Village Idiot restaurant and pub. That’s a 30’ by 30’ specially commissioned painting of legendary racehorse Man O War by Agustin Zarate, based on a black and white photo of the horse in his racing days.
The mural is part of the The Kentucky Horse Park's 100th anniversary celebrations of Man O War and was made possible by Lexarts, Cornett The Village Idiot and Mt Brilliant Farm. Man O War spent most of his life at stud in a barn that has been lovingly restored and renovated on what is now Mt. Brilliant Farm.
Zarate was born in Vera Cruz, Mexico but lives here in Lexington and the mural took him three weeks and three days to complete; it was the first horse he’s painted although now he’d like to do more.
