New Telecommunications Company Picks Lexington for Headquarters

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A start-up telecommunications company is putting down roots in central Kentucky. Xact Communications announced Friday plans to open its main office in Lexington, creating 20 full time jobs with an average salary of $69,000.

“This is going to be our headquarters, so it’s mostly going to be C-level people and management people. We will have another 50-70 people remote in various states,” says Xact Communications President Dale Cooper.

Xact will offer cloud-based phone and Internet service with a focus on strong customer support.

Friday's press conference touting the new headquarters comes  a day after Windstream announced plans to lay off up to 400 workers. Cooper says he wasn’t surprised to hear about restructuring at Windstream, which has acquired several companies in recent years.

“As you get bigger and bigger companies – and I don’t want to paint them as evil because we need all kinds of companies – that’s what happens. Bigger is not always better. And when you’re the customer it’s definitely not always better.”

Cooper says Xact will be different than larger telecom providers because of its emphasis on customer service.

The company was approved for state tax incentives up to $300,000. Cooper says he is in the process of looking for a facility to house the Xact headquarters.
